Life in the City

Take your class on a city journey, studying maps and exploring some features of a number of different cities with this 'Life in the City' scheme of work. They will learn about some human and physical features of cities and explore some of the different landmarks in Edinburgh and Cape Town. There are also opportunities to compare cities and discover landmarks and coastlines your children probably never knew existed!

Your class will love learning about cities around the world and will enjoy the engaging and colourful slides and worksheets. This scheme of work includes detailed lesson plans, slides, differentiated worksheets, maps, images, challenges and picture cards to help get your children excited about learning Geography.

 

Lesson 1

What is a City?

The first lesson in the scheme of work introduces your children to what cities are, why they are important and what we need them for. They will explore some major capital cities around the world and will begin to understand what a capital city is. Your class will examine pictures of distinctive cities and discuss the things they find most interesting.

Features in a City

In this second lesson of the scheme of work your class will learn about some of the physical and human features of cities, focusing on the city of Vancouver. Children will identify where features are, and why some cities have different features to others.
