Floodland: Newspaper Reports

These lessons are based on the novel 'Floodland' by Marcus Sedgwick.

How can newspapers create different effects for the reader? Challenge your class to write two newspaper reports which meet specific briefs set by the editor. Your class will have to make reasoned choices with the language and structure of their reports in order to create the desired effects on the reader.

This complete newspaper report KS2 planning pack includes four fully resourced lessons, themed around Marcus Sedgwick's 'Floodland' novel. They could be taught at any point during the reading of the book, but are best used in context at near the beginning of the story.

You may also like our Extreme Earth Geography scheme of work exploring natural phenomena, including earthquakes, floods, drought and tsunamis.

This lesson pack offers a thorough planning guide, PDF slides to support your teaching input, a variety of differentiated activity ideas, and printable materials to help your class during independent tasks.

What's included:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides
